The Eco-Valley is situated in a typical metropolitan periphery landscape: a mixture of new urban de-velopments and traditional rural functions. Between the urban and rural components of the landscape the Eco-Valley offers the best of two worlds.

The “start-up area” is the demonstration and learning site for the whole area. So in the first stage different functions will be demonstrated that will be extended in future development. Starting point for the first development phase of the site are the existing flour mill and a noodle factory. These will be refurbished and extended and then form a wheat/flour based nucleus for further cluster-ing of related processing activities. Other buildings that will be built in the first phase are the Agriculture R&D Centre and a symbol in the form of a Dutch windmill with exhibition space about energy and water management.
