R&D building ECN Petten

The ECN Energy Research Foundation The Netherlands aims to use this new multifunctional office and laboratory building to demonstrate and expand its experience and know-how in the field of energy-efficient buildings and the sustainable use of energy.
The central area for reception and circulation is situated between the four buildings. A key feature of the design is the diagonal axis formed by the roof over the large void separating the three new buildings and the existing laboratory. The solar panels integrated in the glass roof over this interconnecting space are particularly eye-catching.

The buildings are very energy-efficient and use natural ventilation (70% of the year) and balanced ventilation with heat recovery in the winter. Rain water is collected in the basement.
